Wallpaper has made a big come back, and there are even removable versions, and decals that you can use to make a big statement and add personality to your space.
Our Stone’s home is a 3 bedroom home, and I was so excited once we moved in to have some fun with one of our spare rooms.
Meet: The Pineapple Room!
I made a faux wallpaper looking using removable wall decals, in the shape of pineapples. There are lots of fun shapes and icons that are in style right now like flamingos, pineapples and cacti, and making these decals removable means I can change it up when I get the urge (and the patience for measuring) for a refresh.
I chose pineapples as well as they have long been a sign of welcome, friendship and hospitality - an inviting message for when we welcome guests.
For this project I used my Silhouette machine to create sheets of vinyl cutouts. Aside from my time, the cost was relatively low, as each piece of vinyl retails for about $2.49, and I could fit around 12 per 12x12 sheet. If you don’t have a machine or access to one, you can search Etsy and other online retailers for decals to achieve this look. Many retailers offer easy-to-apply sheets or coloured decals for a quick update. If you’re looking for nursery inspiration, decals can be a really sweet touch to bring a theme to life.
While the measuring looks meticulous, it was quite simple as I used a clear quilting ruler (10”x24 inches) and spaced them out accordingly with the nice clean rectangle edges and measurements. It did take some time, but in the end the accent wall in this room is such a cute touch, and I am really happy the outcome.
Ready to tackle this yourself, but maybe a little scared? Start somewhere like a laundry room or the inside of a closet to try out the look and get a feel for the technique. The update may even make you love doing laundry, or keeping your closet clean (but no guarantees!).
