The Upside to Downsizing

It's A Downsize, Not A Downside:

It's hard to know when the time to downsize your home has come. Even the term 'downsize' sounds like a step backward, and homeowners usually don't fantasize about buying a smaller home. But it doesn't have to feel like a negative thing. Smaller homes can come with big perks, like minimal maintenance, one level living (helloooo no lugging laundry baskets up and down the stairs!) - and in the case of building with Prestige Homes, getting to spend your money on design features you've always adored rather than extra bedrooms.

Whether you're planning your retirement home or simply want to live in a smaller, more cost-effective and eco-friendly house, Stones Prestige Homes offers many ranch-style and minihome plans that are customizable to suit your wants and needs.

When Roy & Anna decided to downsize they originally planned to custom build a home, but once they toured a minihome on our display court they were pleasantly surprised to see just how much space and style a 3 bedroom minihome with cathedral ceilings gave them.

Retirement may not be the only reason for changing houses. Dave & Barb found themselves requiring wheelchair accessible one-level living and enlisted us to build a home they had sketched out on a piece of paper over the kitchen table. In construction, we provided 36" wide doorframes and allowed extra space between the kitchen island and counters. On site, we were able to build the concrete patio up to meet the doorway so there would be no need to build a wheelchair ramp.

Small & Cozy = Warm & Toasty:

Smaller living space also means smaller heating costs, and building with Prestige takes efficiency to the next level. In fact, in recent years we've been awarded by Sustainable Housing as the most air-tight home out of 518 homes tested, including stick-built homes. You can read more on our insulation process here

Location, Location, Location:

Another consideration for retirement living is location. If you're looking for the convenience of living near town amenities, consider builidng within one of Stones Superior Homes' subdivisions. Munroe Heights offers county taxes, town sewer & water, and that "country-feeling", all while being close to the mall, grocery store, and gas stations! We're happy to offer land-home packages where your land, home, driveway, water & sewer is all included in one mortgage payment. All that's left for you to do is turn the key!

Whether you require a larger or smaller house, building a home is a labour of love and should be an exciting time! We would be happy to discuss all of the options available to you at any time during your planning process.
